Oilseed rape remains a vital crop across Europe, but growers face mounting challenges from insect pressure, weed competition, and disease threats. Regulatory changes have reduced chemical options for crop protection, making integrated, practical solutions more essential than ever.

Building strong technical partnerships

Certis Belchim works closely with distributors and agronomists to deliver solutions developed with an understanding of the realities in the field. Our approach ensures products are effective, easy to use, and tailored to local needs.

Getting establishment right

Successful establishment starts with soil preparation. As Aurelien Watelain, Business Manager for Certis Belchim, France, explains:

“If the soil isn’t well prepared, it encourages flea beetles to proliferate. These pests attack the crop early, causing stress and slowing growth. So, proper soil preparation is key, not only for good emergence but also to reduce pest pressure. Moisture is critical too, and a well-prepared seed bed, without large clods, helps retain moisture and supports good crop establishment.”

Precision pest management

Timing is everything when controlling pests such as flea beetles, pollen beetles and weevils so we develop tools to help.

“For example,” says Aurelien, “our innovative monitoring tool, ‘Altisible’, predicts larval emergence of flea beetle and helps technicians to recommend insecticide application at the most effective moment.”

It is important to offer solutions that are practical, easy for technicians to use with confidence and grounded in real field conditions.

Integrated strategies for weeds, slugs, and disease

Weed control is critical, especially against ryegrass, wild oats, and broad-leaved weeds. Our herbicide, ‘Torso’, combines three active ingredients for broad-spectrum control. Slugs can devastate young crops, so our molluscicides (Sluxx HP, Pixxela, and Nova Sluxx) offer flexible protection at sowing or immediately after.

Sclerotinia remains a major disease risk during flowering. Our fungicide solutions, applied at petal fall, safeguard yield and maintain crop health. These treatments are essential in high-pressure regions and significantly reduce yield losses.

Grounded solutions that earn trust

Certis Belchim’s commitment to practical, science-based solutions ensures farmers’ needs are met. Through trials, training, and technical support, we empower agronomists to advise growers effectively and confidently. Our grounded approach focuses on real challenges, real solutions, and a deep understanding of what it takes to grow oilseed rape successfully across Europe.

As one agronomist put it, “The seminars, trials and other events organised by Certis Belchim for technicians are appreciated. They listen to us and understand the realities we face in the field. We have confidence in the solutions and technical expertise they offer that genuinely help us to support growers.”
